What is depression?

Depression can look different for everyone. Symptoms may come and go in waves or be persistent, and often negatively impact self-esteem, relationships, work/school functioning, physical health, and more. Often, depression presents with symptoms like:

  • Intense feelings of sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness

  • Lack of interest or pleasure from things you used to enjoy

  • Weight or appetite changes

  • Sleep problems

  • Feeling drained or without energy

  • “Brain fog” or concentration difficulties

  • Irritability or restlessness

  • Thoughts of suicide
