Hey there, I’m Dr. Samantha Hellberg.

About Me

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Washington and able to see clients in PSYPACT states. In my practice, I provide individual therapy as well as training and consultation for therapists. I have specialize in treating emotional distress and dysregulation, trauma/PTSD, and reproductive mental health concerns. In addition to my work at Root & Bloom, I also serve as Associate Director of the Marsha M. Linehan DBT Clinic at the University of Washington.

I strive to provide personalized, culturally-responsive, and research-backed services. I have over 7 years of experience providing care in outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), and inpatient settings. My training has emphasized cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches to treating trauma/PTSD, anxiety, OCD, grief, depression, and emotion dysregulation. I have a depth of experience working with individuals with histories of complex trauma, traumatic invalidation, and relationship challenges, and specialized training in range of evidence-based treatment protocols, including DBT, DBT PE, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD.

During my doctorate, I developed expertise in reproductive mental health through clinical and research training with the world-renowned UNC Center for Women’s Mood Disorders. I have experience with perinatal, preconception, premenstrual, and perimenopausal concerns, with an emphasis on reproductive trauma, anxiety/OCD, grief, and emotion dysregulation. I have received grant funding, authored book chapters, and published peer-reviewed research articles in these areas. In addition, I furthered my expertise in DBT and trauma/PTSD during my internship and advanced fellowship with Dr. Melanie Harned, the treatment developer of DBT PE. At the Seattle VA, I served as a study therapist and adherence coder for Dr. Harned’s clinical trial on DBT+DBT PE and demonstrated fidelity to gold-standard adherence coders in DBT, DBT PE, and PE.

My ultimate goal as a therapist is to increase access to high-quality, effective, and compassionate care. I now provide consultation and training in reproductive mental health, trauma, and DBT, and am passionate about offerings that both enhance client care and promote provider wellbeing.
