Low Fee Services

The cost of therapy can be a barrier to care. There are ways to find reduced fee services if finances are limited.

How can I find reduced fee mental health services?

National Resources

Local Organizations (WA/King County)

For Insured Individuals

  • Contact your insurance provider; many insurance companies have an online directory or portal that can be used to identify in-network mental health providers in your area.

  • While some insurance plans do reimburse for out-of-network providers, the fees you pay are likely to be lower to for a provider who is in-network with your insurance carrier and specific plan.

Training Clinics

  • Universities, hospitals, and large group practices often have training programs for mental health providers and as a result, may be able to offer reduced fees for services provided by a trainee under the supervision of a licensed professional.

  • How can I find a training clinic in my area?

    • Check the clinic’s website and team page to see if any student clinicians are listed (e.g., practicum student, intern, fellow) and inquire about trainee rates, if available.

    • Call local clinics to ask if reduced fee rates are available and/or opportunities to see a clinician in training.

    • See if local universities have clinical training programs (e.g., MSW, PhD, PsyD). These programs often have in-house clinics that can provide reduced fee services and/or a referral list of low-fee community resources.
